Life can be complicated. It seems that if one area of our life is going well another might feel like chaos. Everyday our lives are filled with information, material items and people. Each of these things can be a problem in how efficient we are in everything we do.
There are simple strategies for boosting efficiency that involves simplifying your life. Here are a few to get you started.
Begin with your relationships. We all have those toxic people in our lives who seem to pull us into their drama. If you have these types of people in your life, limit the amount of time you spend with them. This frees you to spend time with supportive friends and family. Schedule time in your calendar to call them regularly.
Simplify your home life. Personal possessions can build up quickly, creating clutter and causing you to feel overwhelmed and negative. Begin by going through your home and getting rid of things that don’t bring you joy.
Next organize your home by room and category. Give everything a specific place to stay when you aren’t using it. Clean out closets. Keep only the clothes that you wear most often.
Sell or get rid of duplicate items. For example, if you have 2 TVs get rid of one of them. Material items cloud your productivity and can be distracting.
Don’t immediately purchase something just because you see it and want it. Wait four days before you buy it. If you still want it, then buy it. If not move on. Waiting a few days keeps you from instantly buying stuff that may end up as clutter.
Get rid of stored stuff. If you haven’t used it within the last year, are you sure you ever will? On the same lines, cancel subscriptions to magazines, clubs, services or anything that you haven’t used regularly.
Create a space in your home specifically to pay bills, collect mail and file important papers. Keep it clutter free. Also keep it well stocked with pens, file folders, stamps, envelopes and staples.
Minimize your responsibilities and time commitments. Too many can lead to getting bogged down and overwhelmed. Focus on only the ones that are truly enjoyable.
Take up mediation. Meditation is a way to refocus, recharge and relax. Having a clear mind helps you better stay focused and be efficient in everything you do.
Take advantage of software that helps you automate things. Your time, your banking, even your shopping can be automated through software. For example, if you don’t like to shop, you can subscribe to a food delivery service to have groceries delivered each week.
Simplifying your life is a way of reducing distractions so you become more efficient in every area of your life.
